Set Your Medical Record Type

Every PawfectNotes account starts with five built-in templates. Choose a default for every note, switch templates for a single appointment when you confirm a recording, or build your own record type.

The five built-in templates

In Templates, built-in templates are marked with a shield.

  • SOAP NoteSubjective, Objective, Assessment and Plan, with your specialty’s physical exam and your own normal findings.See an example
  • SOAP + DischargeOne recording, two notes: your SOAP note plus client discharge instructions written alongside it.See an example
  • Call SummaryA concise record of a phone call with a client, ready to file in the patient history.See an example
  • Discharge NoteClear take-home instructions written for the pet owner.See an example
  • Referral LetterA referral letter for the receiving veterinarian, written from your appointment.See an example

Step 1: Set your default template

  • 1Open Templates in the app.
  • 2Choose ☆ Set as Default on the template you use most. It then shows ★ Default.
  • 3Every new note starts from your default. Settings shows it under Default Template.

Step 2: Choose a template for one appointment

  • 1When you confirm a recording, the Template list shows your default first, then your most used templates from the last 30 days.
  • 2Search to find any other template, built-in or your own.
  • 3The template you pick is used for that note only; your default stays the same. Choose the ☆ next to a template to make it your new default instead.

Tip: Recording for another vet? The note starts from that vet’s default template, specialty and language.

Step 3: Need another record type? Build it

Dental notes, surgery reports, ultrasound reports, rechecks: build any format your clinic uses as a custom template, with your own sections, fields and output formats, and share it with your practice.

Examples: The dentistry, surgery and ultrasound notes on our Medical Records page show the kind of record you can build a custom template for.
